Electrolux Design Lab 2010 Semi-finalists

Introducing the Robotic Fish Dishwasher, the Snail Induction Cooker and Sheep Vacuum Cleaner – 25 Electrolux Design Lab semi-finalists provide innovative compact living solutions.

From a field of 1,300, the top 25 concepts have been chosen from designers based in 17 countries across the world. Romania and China are represented by three entries each, the USA, India, Russia and Australia have two representatives and for the first time ever, entries from India and the Middle East.

September Finals in London

Eight finalists (announced by Electrolux week commencing 5th July) will be invited to present their concept to a jury of expert designers. The jury will consider entries based on intuitive design, innovation and consumer insight when awarding the first prize of a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre and 5,000 Euros. A second prize of 3,000 Euros and third prize of 2,000 Euros are also on offer.

“At this stage of the contest, we present the 25 responses that offer the most interesting solutions for future living and best consider efficient use of domestic space.” says Henrik Otto, SVP of Global Design at Electrolux.

Benjamin Hubert, Electrolux Design Lab Jury Member

Born in the UK in 1984, Benjamin Hubert studied Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University and graduated in 2006. Benjamin’s London based studio was founded shortly afterwards in 2007 and specialises in industrial design across furniture and lighting sectors. Benjamin has received a number of prestigious awards including: Design of the year (British Design awards 2010) Best Product (100% design/Blueprint awards 2009) Homes and Gardens Young designer (Design Classic awards 2010) and EDIDA International Young Designer of the year 2010.

Ahead of his appearance on the Electrolux Design Lab jury panel at 100% Design, 23rd September 2010, Benjamin answers some questions about his approach to the design process and offers advice to this year’s Electrolux Design Lab finalists.

Electrolux Design Lab at Barcelona Design Hub

The Design Hub Barcelona recently opened their exhibition ‘Full Print3d – Printing Objects’ (16.06.2010 – to 29.05.2011). This three-dimensional printing exhibition includes Electrolux Design Lab 2009 finalist concept, ‘Moléculaire’ – the molecular food printer.

Electrolux Featured in Taschen Design Book

Product Design in the Sustainable Era dedicates 12 pages to Electrolux

Back in April we posted details about a Korean design book featuring Electrolux Design Lab concepts. Hot on the heels of this comes a further publication, this time from Taschen. ‘Product Design in the Sustainable Era illustrates some current best practices in green design, profiling concepts and products from forward thinking, environmentally concious brands. Three Electrolux products, two Electrolux-AEG products and seven Electrolux Design Lab concepts are featured in the book.
