Electrolux Design Lab 2011 Finalists Offer Smart Domestic Appliance Solutions

Eight Electrolux Design Lab finalists offer Intelligent Mobility solutions.
The ninth edition of the annual Electrolux Design Lab competition challenged industrial design students to consider Intelligent Mobility within home appliances.
Eight young designers, chosen from a field of 1,300 entrants, will now present their concept to a jury of expert designers in London, 7th September 2011.


Electrolux will present the eight finalists, representing Australia; Canada; Finland; Hungary; New Zealand; Slovakia and the USA, in a programme that also features insights from Electrolux product specialists and leading designers, including Electrolux global head of Design, Henrik Otto.

“The Eight finalists have shown insight and innovation to make it this far in the 2011 Electrolux Design Lab challenge” say’s Henrik Otto, SVP of Global Design at Electrolux. ”In what was a particularly challenging brief, the top eight are to be congratulated for their lateral thinking and creativity but they will now need to demonstrate why their concept should be crowned absolute winner.”

The Eight finalists will each present their concept at the Business Design Centre, London on September 7th 2011. The jury will consider entries based on intuitive design, innovation and consumer insight when awarding the first prize of a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre and 5,000 Euros. A second prize of 3,000 Euros and third prize of 2,000 Euros are also on offer.

The final of the Electrolux Design Lab competition will form a key part of the Room Home Intelligence conference in London on September 7th 2011. Room will offer expert trend prediction, future consumer behavioural insight and global market intelligence specifically tailored for home product buyers, designers and retailers.


Electrolux will present the eight finalists of the 2011 Electrolux Design Lab contest in a programme that also features insights from Electrolux product specialists and leading designers, including Henrik Otto, Senior Vice President of Global Design at Electrolux.

Electrolux Design Lab 2011 Semi-Finalists Announced

Introducing the world’s smallest microwave oven, compact cleaners and a bouncing blender – 25 Electrolux Design Lab semi-finalists provide ‘Intelligent Mobility’ solutions for domestic appliances utilising existing technology.

From a field of 1,300, the top 25 concepts have been chosen from designers based in 14 countries across the world. Australia, New Zealand and Poland are represented by three entries each, whilst Canada, the Czech Republic, France, South Korea and the USA have two representatives each.

Eight finalists (announced by Electrolux week commencing 11th July) will each be invited to present their concept to a jury of expert designers. The jury will consider entries based on intuitive design, innovation and consumer insight when awarding the first prize of a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre and 5,000 Euros. At this stage of the contest, we present the 25 responses that offer the most interesting solutions for future living and best consider the application of intelligent mobility to appliance design.”

Electrolux Presents Future ‘ReSource’ Kitchen with Domus Academy, Milan

Electrolux challenged Masters students at the Domus Academy in Milan, to rethink kitchen appliances. Nine concepts, based on existing technology that consider sustainability and culture under the theme of ‘ReSource’, are presented here to coincide with 2011 Milan Design Week and just before entry to the annual Electrolux Design Lab contest closes (23:59 CET May 1st, 2011).
